After visiting the art galleries in the other capital cities in the last few months, our expectations were high. It wasn't met. A lady stopped us halfway through and insisted we hand in a bag when others were carrying bigger ones. This meant going all the way back when someone at the entrance could have said something. Then there's the... More

I visited whilst they had the Versailles exhibition on. It was great to see a good but small variety of tapestry art and bronze figures which represented the opulent way of living in the era of king Louis and marie Antoinette. The rest of the museum is free which was interesting to walk around. Enjoyed the ned kelly series of... More

My wife and I visited the National Gallery of Australia for the Versailles – Treasures From the Palace exhibition. We spent a couple of hours wandering around the exhibition and found it fascinating and informative. The intricate workmanship and man-hours required to produce some of the artifacts was breathtaking. The opulence and extravagances of the time were in evidence in... More

Great collection, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Always something new to see. Australian art at it's best. And "Blue Poles", who could ask for more. Sculpture garden and a fantastic, and a expensive, cafe.

I truly enjoyed my visit to the National Gallery. As a new Australian, I wasn't as interested in the European artwork as I was the Aboriginal and regional art. It was a delight to tour this museum and the cafe was excellent for a very rainy day late lunch with a glass of wine.

Went primarily for Versailles exhibition. We saw the ticketed exhibition (takes a couple of hours to read / view and truly appreciate the artwork and artefacts). Approx 100 pieces from Versailles and private collections. A must for history and art fanatics. If I say anymore I will spoil it for many - so best go see before mid April (when... More

The scenes travelling in time ! The perfumed exhibition gave me a glimpse of the decadent life at Versailles . I thought there may have been more chandeliers and other glamorous articles but really enjoyed what was there and how it was presented. The audio tour is a must.

What a wonderful moment capturing the splendour of Versailles! If you have some free time soon, go visit. I loved the Latona, Diana and Apollo statue. While each painting, tapestry, fan and urn imbues one into the amazing world of Versailles, you cannot help but feel the opulence that once was. Thank you NGA!
