We spent a very interesting 4 hours at this fascinating place. We had driven past previously and thought it looked very interesting so made a point of coming back to visit. We have not been disappointed - what an amazing place with such a great display of history. I am not a train buff but just loved the displays. The... More

We are not train buffs but enjoyed a couple of hours exploring the rail history and trains. If you are a rail buff you would want to spend ALL day as there are SOOO many trains and exhibits to see!!! Take a picnic as the cafe is closed and plenty of picnic areas.

Saw 1 comment relating to old museum (the person missed the old setup), but new version will be understood and appreciated by a much wider audience. I'm a train fan but I agree with the new setup as it explains the relevance of the railways and the particular item in a greater social impact. I think many visitors will get... More

Took our two sons to a day out with Thomas. It's a fantastic day and I would recommend to all. Staff are super friendly. Could easily spend a whole day out there. Recommend taking food and picnic blanket.

A fantastic historical display with lots of interesting rolling stock. Staff work hard and are friendly. Phone before you go though. If there is a special event on a Sunday, the usual train ride does not seem to happen, but this is not notified on the website. To avoid disappointment, phone in advance to check the details and/or book tickets.

It had been many years since our last visit to Thirlmere. This time with our children, their partners and the grandson for a day out with Thomas the tank engine. We purchased the tickets online, so as to book a ride on the steam train that ran hourly. Weekends like this don't run all the time, and the added excitement... More

Well worth a visit and even better if you are riding the Southern Highlands with your mates. Its on a back road up in the Southern Highlands not far from the Picton main drag. If you are into old stuff then either plan to be on your bike or with your family or take the kids or grand kids.. Look... More

An excellent place for young and old , climbing into a vintage train, sitting in the seats remembering the by gone days. The kids loved walking through the carriages listening to the commentaries.

Train works was a delight to visit. If you have a passion for Australian history and trains then this place is a must. Entry fee for an adult was reasonable at $19 or $26 if you wanted to ride on a steam train (40 min Aprox). There is a cafe on site and lots of old old trains. Plus a... More
