When we were in Sydney we wanted to learn something about the early English settlers. Taking a tour seemed the best way. Sally had a microphone so it was easy to hear her. She was preoccupied with providing keeping the couple with the toddler in a stroller alternate routes. The couple made sure the toddler was kept occupied. But it... More

Sophie, our guide, was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable about the history of the Rocks area. I learned so much about a place that I have visited often but didn't know the story behind. She personalised the tour to the makeup of the group including info of special interest to the children on the tour and the historical connections to the... More

In Sydney on an extended holiday and took this tour. It is one of the most informative and interesting two hours of my life. The tour walks you through the original heart of the colonial, convict settlement, explaining the origins and development of city from the first years through to the modern day - just brilliant!

Interesting to hear the stories of the area known as the Rocks. Did think it was a little expensive for a 90 minute walking tour.

We had a very enthusiastic guide take us through The Rocks. She took extra time past our appointed end time to give us a full tour. We learned history, culture and current state of things in the area. The Rocks are a significant aspect to Sydney's history. In addition, there is a very vibrant social energy in The Rocks intertwined... More

Throughly enjoyed the one hour 30 minute (actually one hour 50 minute on our tour) walking tour of the Rocks given by Anne during our 4 days stay in the area. Her knowledge and passion were greatly appreciated as was the extension the "Garrison" Church via the Argyle Cut. A abbreviated handout of key locations visited covered would be a... More

The Rocks tour is a great way to learn more about this interesting part of Sydney. I was staying here but had a much better appreciation for the area after the tour and was more confident about delving into the neighborhood more on my own. Our guide, Sarah, gave us a wonderful tour of alleys, old home sites and harbor views along with a tremendous amount of historical information. I understand the founding of Australia as an English colony so much better after 90+ minutes of her time. Highly recommend this tour to all.

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
