Interesting fountain

One of the best features of a fairly dull Hyde Park. Pleasant backdrop to your lunch or short break from work.

Right in the center of Hyde Park, Archibald Fountain is hard to miss. It's great to walk by and people watch, have a picnic or just walk through on your way to the botanic gardens or barracks museum.

Archibald was inspired by all things French and built this fountain on the site of Sydney's Colonial race track in Hyde Park.

The Archibald Fountain is a gift from JF Archibald to the people of Sydney to commemorate friendship with the French and Australian involvement in WWI on French soil. The fountain was built in France and sent over to Sydney to be placed at this spot in the Hyde Park. The beautiful greenery and the matching grandeur of St Mary's Cathedral... More

I'm not sure what the sculptor was trying to express - yes, i know, i could've googled it, but it doesn't seem to be so thought provoking to justify that. However, it's a nice place in a formal city park, so it would be a good place to let's say meet someone. Or play with the kids.

This is actually my favourite fountain in Sydney, but if you're well travelled, you might find it average. However if you're in that area of Hyde Park, or passing through to get to the domain, it is definitely worth a stop. Just wouldn't put it in your top 10 list of things to see in Sydney.

When visiting Hyde Park one shouldn't miss the lovely fountain at the entrance. It is very big and the figures around it - and atop it - are wonderfully sculpted and the "fountain" gives a great effective display. It is worth spending a little time just "looking" and gazing at this marvellous feature of Sydney's 'main' park.

Spent time in this park after a trip to Sydney tower, there are great fountain and open views of the statues , lots of benches to rest with the colorful flowers blooming surrounding the area where you can find plenty of nice shoot location. Definitely a cool place to visit while in Sydney to get away from the hustle bustle... More

In Hyde Park just up from the Anzac Memorial and across the street from the Currency Museum it is a beautiful fountain surrounded by a beautiful relaxing park area and the St James Station is at the north end of the park as well so easy to access by transit. Commemorating J.F. Archibald’s love of French culture and his desire... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
