The beach was very lovely. We came on a weekend near midday so as expected it was quite crowded. Nevertheless we still managed to have quite a lot of fun just relaxing on the beach. There are many souvenir and local shops around the area, as well as a variety of eateries. There was an art market going on too... More

It's an OK trip from Sydney Harbour to Manly for a few hours. Nice beach but nothing special. Local cafes and shops are very touristy. Nothing to write home about.

Manly Beach is a great place to take a stroll and go for a swim. There is good snorkeling and lots of nearby cafes for breakfast or lunch. There were plenty of surfers out in the water when we went to visit this beach. The ferry ride to get to the beach is an event in itself!!

Love the ferry ride to Manly. Loads to see in the half hour trip there. Manly is relaxed and nice destination. Markets on Saturday add to the shopping. The beach is great if to much surf or you have little ones go 10 minutes further to Shelly beach or back by the ferry terminal. Loads of good pubs, coffee shops and... More

We popped in on a Sunday afternoon, this place is a large sprawling pub corner facing onto the beach. Popular with locals and families it offers inexpensive food and drink.

I wasn't very Lucky those two days that I went there because the weather wasn't very good so the safeguards closed the beach for everybody! Very cloudy and freezing breezy! So sad!

Manly is a great place to visit, even if you don't surf! Just take a gentle stroll along the beach, watch the sunset, enjoy a beer, then catch the ferry back to Circular Quay.

If you can visit during the week you will avoid the weekend crowds... unless people watching is your thing.

Staying in Manly

Neighbourhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
