We booked onto shark island for new years eve and were really impressed. the views at midnight were stunning and the tiny island somehow held nearly 800 people without feeling cramped. we had a great vantage point for the fireworks, and the bar was well stocked with reasonable prices (for sydney). we brought our own food to save money and... Shark Island is named after its shape and not for the presence of sharks. Although minutes away from Sydney, it seems a world away. There is a great view of Sydney’s skyline from here and the Harbour with its plentiful boats. On the island, there’s a gazebo, a small beach, bathroom facilities and a grassy knoll with frond palms and... More

When you've done all the big ticket items or especially if you live within striking distance of Sydney you want to start ticking off the quirky or lesser attractions. Gotta get them bragging rights if nothing else! Shark Island is easy enough to get to if you have your own water transport although there are apparently landing fees. Or you... More

Spent a few hours on Shark Island, relaxing and taking in the scenery with my wife. Caught a ferry across from King St Wharf. A very pleasant afternoon - will need to do this again. In the midst of Sydney Harbour, but seems a 1000 miles away from the hustle and bustle! Worth exploring!

what a great way to spend a day, princess cruises took us to shark island, amazing lunch on board, expert, and knowledgeable commentary along the way from the ships crew, animated staff that genuinely looked like they enjoyed their job. Shark island, untouched treasure, snorkelling, exploring. Thankyou to all ...was great!

We visited the day before Australia Day and had the whole Island to ourselves! We took a hamper a bottle of wine and some beers and had a lovely afternoon taking in the Harbour and views of the city. You can even have a swim at the little beach on the city side. Plenty of shade and around 6 small... More

Amazing view for a really well set up ticketed event. Good amenities, lots of security and a great crowd. Not too many people which meant there were plenty of spots around the island to comfortably take in the NYE fireworks. Unfortunately the bar ran out of wine and sparkling by 11pm. DJs kept the party going. Great way to bring... More

We spent the best part of a day here with visiting American friends. It was delightful. 360 degree views of the wonderful harbour and all it offers including a yacht regatta off Watsons Bay and the sea plane taking off. Lovely walks around the rocks, picking up shells and weathered glass from the beach......finished off with a picnic looking towards... More

Small island, little beaches, walking path and restroom facilities. It is a nice Sydney harbour escape. Beautiful beach glass too if you are into that.
