I have seen a few harbours in my time but in terms of being a wonderful place sailing into Sydney Circular Quay with the Bridge the Opera House and beautiful bays is up there with the best of them. When in Sydney do not miss...More
Wonderful spot in a wonderful city - the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are just two of the wonderful sites in this magnificent spot. Try to go on a harbour cruise and soak up the other parts of this natural beauty. A beaut.
Sydney Harbor is absolutely awesome. We walked around Circular Quay to the Opera House and took a tour through which I found very interesting. We then walked back to the Quay and took a ferry to Manly. It was a truly exciting experience being on...More
Hidden beyond Luna Park is a beautiful short walk around Lavender Bay.As you follow the path around there are native plants & occasional seats to rest & admire the many boats bobbing in the bay. Also dotted along the far end are little concrete characters...More

There are very few places to stay in the Rocks, which is the area with the best view of the Opera House. The only place that I think would be guaranteed a view would be the Park Hyatt. They are hard to get into and are very expensive, but it appeared that the enormous cruise ship that blocked the view from the Rocks for part of our stay did not block the views from the Park Hyatt. The historic Hotel Russell is closeby but you won't see the Opera House from there. Stayed there 20 years ago, but is more suited for couples as the rooms are small. We stayed at a nice Air B&B this last time; search for the flat in Dawes Point (I think there's only one). Again, no view of the Opera House, but a great location in the rocks allowing us to easily walk to the viewing point for both the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. One would not be able to see the Opera House from the business district hotels.

Hi! I would agree with an earlier respond. To have a great time viewing the fireworks the advantage would be to book in at a hire apartment or hotel with perfect sights of the Harbour Bridge. Another, cheaper way to view is walk along the water edge early in the day to have vantage views. BUTTT!!!! Beware of thieves and pickpockets! They'll bumb into you to distract. So, be warn!! Watch your mobile phones and wallets. Be weary of being kissed whilst enjoying your time! I live in Sydney and been to the New Year's eve celebration in that crowded area thus knew what's it like.
