Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

In the Outback where isolation is the norm, when people got sick they were mostly on their own. In 1928 the Royal Flying Doctors Service began and medical services were reachable by having doctors fly to remote areas when there was need, and by being able to move patients to hospitals when that was needed. We spent an entire afternoon... More

Very informative and interesting. Nice film to start with to give you the perspective and background. The museum itself is small but covers an interesting history - the Royal Flying Doctors Service has come a long way from it's modest beginnings. A very critical service in this barren land.

Decided to go here for lunch on Sunday and was greeted by lovely welcoming staff. Quiche and Salad was great, and one of the best coffees I have had here in Alice. Nothing was too much trouble and had an excellent visit. Very reasonable prices.

This museum was a moving experience in more ways than one! I was fascinated by the history of the service and the heartfelt stories of people who had used the service. There is a full sized plane on display, and walking through it, bent double, brought home to me, the difficult conditions under which these marvellous people work. I was... More

The cafe was average. The cakes seemed to be a day or two old and the coffee no better than OK. A bit disappointing after the Olive Pink cafe

It must be because the captive market of the Ghan goes there that prices are so high. $16 entrance and $6.50 for a coffee is not acceptable.

An essential service which this tourist centre explains in great detail via a film/histogram, a talk and many exhibits, with both historical and current value. Not only is the service essential, but the knowledge of the service and its value is important. Thank you for hosting us.

This attraction traced the development of the flying doctor service through a short film , general displays, interactive hologram activities and a real plane that you can investigate. My husband and I enjoyed it all and learnt a lot.
