The drive up to the Tableland is good enough on its own, then it gets better. Fabulous views. A drive through the bush is a joy. Termite hills by the thousand, kangeroos and the noisy but fun sulphur crested cockatoos. And to top it all, some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted.

We followed the spectacular road to Kuranda, where we stopped for a look at the markets which were in the process of being set up, and a wander up and down the main street. We continued to Mareeba where we had a lovely lunch at an Italian cafe on the left side of the main street before continuing to Atherton,... More

We drove up to Mareeba from Cairns and and then with many stops to visit places and view the scenery we completed the loop back to Cairns. We had Scottish friends with us and one of the highlights for their whole trip was seeing platypuses in the wild. A must is a visit to Youngaburra where there is a platypus... More

Everyone should do the Atherton Tableland loop at least once and Cairns locals do go and have weekends away up there. There are many attractions and is much cooler than Cairns.

when visiting a 39 year old son, who is a skydiver by trade, you need to find very different activities when you have a day together so decided to visit the crystal caves, caves may be manmade but crystals are genuine. Kept us all mesmerised for over 2 hours, highly recommended

Lots of nice views, scenic drives, waterfalls and plenty of nice cafes, organic produce and 'tasting' type places for cheeses, chocolates, nuts etc. A lovely day driving around the tablelands.

We have traveled up the coast from Townsville and decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. With our caravan we headed up into the hills of Atherton Tablelands and discovered a green hilly country location with tons to offer, without the hot weather. Sure it rains but that is what makes it green. There are... More

The atherton tablelands encompasses a fair bit of countryside. Drive around and view all the townships and sights. Wonderful area.

We took two days visiting Atherton Tablelands. The first day, we went through the very long windy road going from Cairns to Atherton (Gordonvale way) and then visiting Parenolla Park. There is nothing to do in the town (Atherton) itself so if you wish to visit the eateries, go via the Kuranda Way leading to Mareeba which is easier (less... More
