Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda. This spectacular

experience travels over bridges and through tunnels hand-made by North Queensland's

pioneers over 100 years ago. Traversing the World Heritage listed rainforest of the Barron

I booked the Historical Scenic Rail to Kuranda and the SkyRail down. While the SkyRail was a thrill, this ride was more leisurely. You get a taste of the past as you wind up the mountain around bends and through tunnels. The views are spectacular. I enjoyed the SkyRail back down a bit more, but am happy I got the... More

Reminded me very much of the mountain train in India. Almost colonial. We travelled up to Kuranda by this train and down by sky train. So so much cheaper to book it oneself rather than a package. Wasn't terribly impressed with Kuranda itself. Very touristy, very expensive. Would recommend the river tour. Two hours is ample time in Kuranda including... More

I went up to Kuranda by skyrail and returned by scenic railway. The train is not air-conditioned. You might think fresh air will come in through the open windows, but the train is so slow that you cannot feel any air flow. There is a water dispenser in the train, but make sure you bring enough drinks for 2 hours... More

Been on the train twice and the sky rail 3 times. We absolutely loved it each and every time. Worth the money for sure. Do the early sky rail and later train to ensure you see everything in Kuranda.

A very quaint ride up the mountain. It's an old 1900 train and takes 2 hours to take you to the top. A warning; whilst the seats are comfy, space is limited and they squeeze 4 in a row facing each way. They allocate seats so do try to book seats forward facing next to the window. Also there is... Beautiful travel by the forests tropical. A fun attraction that takes half a day. The best combination is to go by train and return with the skyrail. In the end you have a small town with stores of memories.

As part of our family holiday to cairns, we visited the Kuranda scenic tour. Our family really enjoyed the scenery around the national park and especially my daughter love the sky rail a lot. Getting back to Cairns from Kuranda we took the Scenic railway, there are some very good seats in quite old carriages, with a very good commentary explaining all aspects of how the railway was built and other history surrounding it as well there are also a couple of photo shoots stops as well, one of which is the fabulous Stoney... We went to Kuranda by the railway. Make sure you download the app prior to arrival. I wasn't able to download it at the train station because the Internet was spotty. Beautiful views... approximately two hours on train. Two stops on the way. Water and bathrooms on the train. At the first stop make sure you go upstairs to get... More
