The Cairns Museum tells the story of Cairns, right in the heart of the city. Housed in the award-winning School of Arts building, the Museum reopened in 2017 after a major renovation. The Cairns Museum now contains five galleries that showcase the history of Cairns, including Aboriginal Traditional Owners, sugar cane history, WW II, tourism development, local architecture and cyclones, as well as the inside story of living in the tropics - amongst crocs, toads, jellyfish and snakes! Our friendly local guides are on hand to assist and give you genuine advice on what to see and do in Cairns.

Took a visit to the revamped museum. I had visited the old one and was not too impressed. I thought that I would allocate an hour for the visit but found that 1 1/2 to 2 hours are needed to absorb all the exhibits. It...More

Super engaging historical stories, the script was interesting too - my favourite part though were the animation and movies. Something for visual learners. Thumbs up.

We were walking past the interesting old building but noticed that it's completely empty. There was no sign of where all the displays went or if they were coming back. I hope they recreate the museum someday.More
