The Cairns Museum tells the story of Cairns, right in the heart of the city. Housed in the award-winning School of Arts building, the Museum reopened in 2017 after a major renovation. The Cairns Museum now contains five galleries that showcase the history of Cairns, including Aboriginal Traditional Owners, sugar cane history, WW II, tourism development, local architecture and cyclones, as well as the inside story of living in the tropics - amongst crocs, toads, jellyfish and snakes! Our friendly local guides are on hand to assist and give you genuine advice on what to see and do in Cairns.

This museum is relatively new but well worth the couple hours we spent learning about the aborigines and their history. We talked extensively to one of the guide available and learned amazing facts and history of Cairns. Highly recommend a visit.

So glad we took the time out from the heat and spent couple of hours here. Reminiscing our history. Only new but lots of potential. Please make the effort to see Cairns and its history in this wonderful old building.
