This is a magic place. Try and go either before or after the tour buses have been (before 10 or after 3) and have the place to yourself.

Everybody goes to Lake McKenzie, so we chose Lake Birrabeen, and had it all to ourselves. Absoutely great water and beach, and just as pretty as Lake McKenzie. A little more remote, but who cares- you had to travel these sandy roads to get anywhere.

This is just as pretty and there are far less people here. It takes a little bit longer to get here, but we absolutely loved it.

This lake is just down the road (sand track ) from the very popular lake MacKenzie. It is the same crystal clear water and white sand but a bit more shallow and much quieter and fewer tourists. It is well worth a visit and a relax on the beach. You could easily spend sunset on the beach and then camp... More

We found this spot by accident but were pleasantly surprised. Nice spot to picnic or just sit by the water. Very clean and pretty lake.

Better choice than Lake McKenzie with far less bogans and tour buses. Lake Birrabeen has a bigger beach and it is a lot quieter and just as nice if not better than Lake McKenzie.

If you want to go to a lake like lake Mckenzie but don't want to fight the crowds then this is your lake. It has similar color sand and water and is slightly bigger then lake Mckenzie.

We stopped by Lake Birrabeen during our time on Fraser Island at the end of June and it’s a bit smaller than Lake McKenzie but still fantastic, nice soft sand, beautiful clear water and not quite as busy but that could have just been the days we were there. Some paddle boarders out there and people just chilling on the... More
