Description:

Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best...

Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best outdoor market - proudly operated by the City of Hobart - every Saturday from 8:30am to 3:00pm at Hobart's Salamanca Place.

Set between graceful plane trees and the mellow sandstone facades of historic warehouses, Hobart's famous market at Salamanca Place attracts thousands of locals and visitors, every Saturday of the year.

They come to visit more than 300 stalls for the food and music, fresh fruit, crisp organic vegetables, hot baked spuds, the warm aroma of a coffee and croissant, buskers singing the blues, stroking a harp or strumming a lively folk song.

They come for breakfast, scrambled eggs and orange juice at a Salamanca cafe, then a stroll along the hundreds of stalls, meeting friendly people who make or grow what they sell.

Salamanca Market highlights fine Tasmanian art & craft including hand-worked glass, innovative design in Tasmanian timbers, stylish clothing and bold ceramics.

Salamanca Market is close to historic St David's Park on the fringe of Hobart's central business district. From the market, it's a short climb up Kelly's Steps to reach the Georgian cottages and the village atmosphere of Battery Point.

Hobart's picturesque waterfront is also nearby - cross Salamanca lawns to the docks, where hard-working fishing boats are berthed close to cruising yachts and a square-rigger or two.

Salamanca market is very well known & highly recommended, it's a foodies paradise with offerings of fresh truffles, freshly baked breads, many food options to taste while wandering the market, I purchased a Merino wool wrap & matching hat 😍 to keep me warm during the Victorian winter.

This is a popular tourist area similar to the sydney rocks market, but a lot larger with something more unique to tasmania. worth spending some time here and have breakfast or lunch in near by battery point area.

Worth a look, we love markets and have checked plenty out in Australia and in Europe. Actually planned on seeing this one on our visit to Hobart as it's only on every Saturday. We strolled up and down the stalls and filled in a few interesting hours. First time we didn't actually buy anything but still worth a look and... More

If in Hobart the famous Salamanca Markets are a must. Great stalls, musicians playing and lovely shops accessible up and down the street. Home produce, food, jewellery, clothing and inspiring gifts. You could easily spend a couple of hours. Get there early. A great atmosphere.

This is a pretty market with a some fresh produce, several ready-to-eat food stalls, and lots of artisan goods stalls. Note the 3pm closing time. I went around 2pm and it was not busy and there was still good quality fresh produce on offer. Since there are so many nice markets in Australia and around the world, I don't think... More

This must be one of the best markets in Australia. It's huge and buzzing. The produce is marvellous, local, fresh and delicious. Great craft available good musicians and fabulous atmosphere. Even up-market items like pearl jewellery and quality clothing. Not to be missed if you're in Hobart on a Saturday. Grab a snack from a stall or a meal from... More
