This fringe of city suburb has all you need for refreshment. Hill Street Store for delicatessen, a great selection of cheese & all yr needs. Nearby is the Macquarie Food Store where the service is excellent as is the ambiance. Food is basic & good. Ginger Brown, a short walk uphill from the main shops has an excellent reputation for... Walk up Maquarie Street, past two sets of shops, (cafes at each), at the 2nd you arrive at Darcy Street playground and park, with a shop across the road if you want to have an... More

I got off at South Hobart Village when riding the Red Decker "Hop On Hop Off" Bus yesterday. A nice setting - peaceful even on a weekday. Spent about an hour walking around before reboarding another Red Decker.

We stayed in South Hobart and found it to be a great location, it pays to go for a drive to see some lovely heritage homes. Fabulous how they have been preserved where in other cities the older homes are being torn down to allow for new developments.

South Hobart is an excellent base if you're staying in Hobart. Food in "salad bowl" is a must, can live without cooking from food here. Fresh, tasty and good value. Views of the mountain with snow is a bonus. Close to the city but quiet and available little cafes everywhere.

South Hobart has the Rivulet Walk, the Female Factory and the Cascade Brewery. There are a few good shops on Macquarie Street in Sth Hobart but the real attraction for me is the variety of architecture from the 1800's situated between Macquarie and Davey Streets ranging from workers cottages around Macquarie St to mansions up on Davey Street. The back... More

On our recent visit we found south Hobart a great central base, plenty of shopping venues as well as great places to eat, the people were friendly and more than willing to help with directions, as we did seem to get lost quite a bit
