Mount Buffalo National Park is 325 kilometres, or a 4 hour drive north of Melbourne. It has sheer cliffs, imposing granite tors, tumbling waterfalls, snow gums and stunning wildflowers. The park features over 90km of walking tracks, panoramic scenery, waterfalls and scope for adventurous pursuits such as rock climbing and hang-gliding. Mount Buffalo is an all-seasons playground. In summer, wildflowers are plentiful and the park is a cool retreat from the heat of the lowlands. Take in superb 360-degree views from the summit of the Horn and the delightful Gorge Heritage Walk. Enjoy picnics, canoeing and camping at Lake Catani in the summer months. In winter the park is ideal for cross-country skiing with its gentle undulating landscape, spectacular sub-alpine environment and the convenience of over 14km of marked ski trails. The park offers safe and accessible tobogganing and snow play areas, providing great fun for the whole family. Camping is available from Melbourne Cup Weekend to April inclusive. Bookings are essential.

I've always visited in summer/autumn, and there are so many things to see and do in the park at those times. Plenty of walking, including the Big Walk (recommend doing top half only: Mackey's Lookout to Gorge Car Park), walks on to Lake Catani (recommend Underground River walk), rock scrambling around the galleries and up on the Hump. Magnificent viewpoints... More

Magnificent! Narrow winding road all the way to the end - the Horn. Beware cyclists, I reckon they train all year apart from winter. Heaps of walks short and long. The Big Walk is recommended for fit hikers. Stunning views at The Horn and interesting history up at the Mt Buffalo Chalet. Cool off at Lake Catani or one of... More

So so so many things to do there. U can just pass hours by looking the natural beauty. Beautiful lake, falls, valley full of wild flowers and off course wildlife ( we have encounter with wombats, Snakes ). Heading towards the Horn (1723m) is not a easy driving. Use low gear and 4wd in the gravel road to the top... More

Drove up this morning. What a beautiful way to spend a couple of hours. Despite the constant rain, enjoyed a walk to one of the upper and lower falls. Also loved walking around through the snow covered forest towards the top. Highly recommend you go if you are in Bright/Porepunkah nearby.

Nice drive from Bright. Roads were not too winding. Beautiful spot to stop, check out the view, and have a picnic.

A good friend brought her elderly mother down from Brisbane to see the snow for her first time. A day trip up to Mt Buffalo, a play in the snow and morning tea at Dingo Dell left her in raptures. The roads, snow clearing, facilities etc are great and a credit to the staff. Dingo Dell cafe provided great hot... More

The road up is very well kept and easy to drive. although lots of tight turns to zig zag up the last bit. The last 3km is a gravel track but is suitable for any car. Basically this is a must to drive to the top. There is a great lookout right at the top car park and suitable for... More

The drive up is about 45min with some spectacular views of rock formations (be prepared if you get car sick, it's very windy). If you take the 15min walk to the top from the car park, make sure you have good shoes. Also recommend stopping at the falls on the way back down towards the bottom of the mountain, if... More

Walks of all lengths for various fitness levels. Eurobin Falls was a short, steep walk with a swimming hole close to the start. Rollasons Falls was beautiful and there is a large swimming hole at the lower part of the track with very cold water...it was too cold for us to swim comfortably. The Horn is an absolute must-see with... More
