Visited on Saturday 3rd March. We were on a boat cruise to Williamstown and spotted this old ship moored at Gem Pier. We wondered down to have a look at this piece of Australia's Maritime History. Recommend you do the same.

HMAS Castlemaine is permanently moored and staffed by volunteers. Admission is amazing value, please leave a donation too. Static display is broad and thorough, photos, artefacts, detailed descriptions. The Bofors has limited movement, better than the national Maritime museum at Darling Harbour. Engine room is...More

Well worth seeking out and visiting. Fascinating display on life on a small ship in the Pacific campaign. Really friendly team of volunteers, great enthusiasm for the ship, and it shows. Recommended

A great heritage item for Melbourne. Well worth a look. It has lots of exhibits and some originality. Good for exploring. Good for kids too. Reasonable priced entry.

Castlemaine , a Bathurst Class corvette was built in 1942 at the Williamstown Naval Dockyards just down the road from gem Pier and is now a floating museum. Although not open when visited you can get up close and you realise how small the fighting...More

The HMAS Castlemaine was built in the Williamson Naval Dockyard. This corvette, amongst the RAN's smallest seagoing ships, served in World War II. It will fascinate those with an interest in the navy and the sea. The HMAS Castlemaine is open for inspection most weekends....More

This floating museum was a brilliant place to bring our scout troop. The on board museum and the volunteers that ran the tour were great and very engaging. Would recommend.

This Corvette has been restored entirely by volunteers, donations and the small $6 adults and $3 kids entry fee. Not great if you are disabled as you have to climb the ladders between the levels. Set up as a museum with some sound effects and...More
