This is a beautiful church that deserves a visit. The ladies answering questions were knowledgeable and charming. They do charge $5 for a photo permit but the payments help to maintain the church.

This beautiful building has an interesting history. It was designed in England and the architect never visited Melbourne to see it. It has 2 fonts. There's a useful leaflet in several languages explaining the design and layout of the cathedral.

Yes, you can enter when there are no services. It would be best to contact the Cathedral to ask opening hours.

Michelle K. I did not hear any bells midweek during my visit, but other reviewers indicate they are rung to call parishioners to Mass, and for special occasions (weddings). P.S. do not miss Cook's Cottage... More

Lee, As a visitor and not a Melbourne-ite I think you would be best to use Public Transport or leave vehicle at Hotel.
