Overview
More
Melbourne’s iconic Princess Theatre is regarded by many as Melbourne’s most spectacular landmark. Dating back as far as 1854, the theatre was purchased by Marriner Theatres in 1986 and plans were immediately put in place for its total refurbishment to ensure its future viability as a live theatre venue. The Princess Theatre reopened in 1989 with the musical ‘Les Miserables’ followed by ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ which established a new record for the longest-running show ever staged in Victoria. Today, it continues to host some of the world’s most renowned theatre productions.

Visited on Sunday 4th March. Over they years I have been to various performances here and it is good to see it is still being used for it's original purpose. We showed our visitors the front and lobby area on this visit there.

This theatre was originally rebuilt in 1886 and has had a number of refurbishments since, including a major one in 1989, and whilst the architecture, both externally and internally, is quite beautiful the seating, both the gradient, the seating alignment and the distance between the...More

The site of a theatre as far back as 1854 the "Princess Theatre" as it is today dates back to the rebuilt theatre from 1886 and its remodel in 1922. This theatre will seat 1,500 patrons and is a stunning historical landmark in Melbourne's Spring...More

This is a beautiful old theatre on the edge of Melbourne. The free city circle tram stops right near here and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby if you want a pre-show meal. I came here to see The Book of Mormon. I...More

We just saw a show at the Princess and couldn't believe the lack of space. I'm only short and could barely sit straight; anyone over 5' or 155cm would be tortured. Why are they squashing people in so much? Our seats were in the first...More

Attended to see the Book of Mormon. Show itself was great, theatre is a lovely old building but a little cramped in parts, eg: breakout space on the Dress Circle floor - the seats could do with an upgrade but I'm not too fussy personally....More

Really depends on what is playing here. Not a bad theatre, though cramped in the foyer. Close to the railway station, which is convenient.

Hello, I prefer seats upstairs in the dress circle as I am short and stall seats tend to not be tiered - just my preference really.
