I was staying in Melbourne for a few days & needed some extra toiletries. I went to David Jones late on Boxing Day & was helped by a smiling young woman, who was patient & keen to assist. The store was full of customers & I really appreciated her assistance.

This is a good store and possibly the best in Melbourne but not meet the standards you see overseas in terms of product range or providing a place to get what you want. The basement food court is no where near the standard you see in Japan or London but a good try. The better quality brands are usually too... More

Coming from Singapore where we have an over-saturation of shopping malls, we thought that David Jones is another one of those run-of-the-mill places that can't differentiate from the others. Not so this one. Merchandise range is wide, and prices surprisingly reasonable.

This is my new favorite store! The choices are endless, as is the variety. High end fashion to homewares-just beautiful! I bought shoes here along with my niece. The service was impeccable. You just don't get service like this in other places. They called to see if my nieces size was available in another part of the store, and then... More

Compared to Fortnum or Harrods this foodhall struggles. Floor staff need lessons on customer service not the begrudging attention we received. A complete redesign and makeover would be useful.

You'd think a shopping mall is another shopping mall. This place had some quirky shops that I even enjoyed visiting. We have A LOT of shopping malls in Singapore, well over 200 and counting. This shopping mall had some different stuff to offer. If you want to cool off or just grab coffee and cake or just need a break,... More

Went to David Jones' at Southland never again. Tried to buy some men's underwear and waited at (lack of) Service Desk. Had to go hunting for a staff member who was chatting to a friend and when he finally asked me if I needed assistance said he was helping someone and would be with us shortly. Then went to third... I noticed something when I went into David Jones' city department store for women yesterday, and you can too if you look down as you step inside. You'll spot old-fashioned script in brass reading "Est. 1838". Yes, this is a long-established department store chain, and it is proud of its heritage. The first DJs store opened in Sydney in 1838.... More

Purchased goods in 3 different areas and had great customer service in all 3. DJs also had good stock levels even in the popular lines. Pleasure to shop

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
