Westgate Park is a nature sanctuary located in the heart of industrial Melbourne. Having undergone many transformations before emerging as one of Melbourne’s most visible parks, Westgate Park is a vibrant example of how a wasteland can become a flourishing ecological and recreational wetland environment. Westgate Park offers a range of attractions and activities, located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge; the park offers spectacular views to the mouth of the Yarra and the city skyline. Enjoy a picnic lunch with friends or family or cycle along the Yarra River or the Port Melbourne foreshore. The healthy bird population also attracts bird watching enthusiasts. Barbecues and picnic areas are free and available for shared use. Westgate Park is located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River, under the Westgate Bridge. Access is via Todd Rd or near the end of Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne.

The lake has returned to its pink colour in the past week or so. Definitely worth taking a trip here if you have never seen a pink lake.

Locals know about this park. And it has a lovely bike path along it. But getting to it is awkward without a bike. It's not somewhere you'd go if you weren't with someone who knew where they were going. You'd also want to be on...More

Westgate Park is in the middle of an old industrial area. The vegetation consists mainly of Australian native plants, which are \fighting back after almost 100 years of industrialisation. The park is quite extensive and it includes several lakes within its boundaries.

Worth the stop. Parking is horrendous on the Summer weekends when the water is pink. It's a short but interesting walk around the lake to see various shades of pink. Must see the lake when the sun is shining brightly to see the vibrant pink....More

Nice inner city park. Entry near the carpark has copious quantities of both dingers and Mentos, looks like evenings get lively.

The park is easily accessible by public transport with the #606 and #235 routes terminating right at it in Fisherman's Bend. The park has a lot going for it in terms of varied bird life, both water and woodland varieties, bushland (with large trees now)...More
