Westgate Park is a nature sanctuary located in the heart of industrial Melbourne. Having undergone many transformations before emerging as one of Melbourne’s most visible parks, Westgate Park is a vibrant example of how a wasteland can become a flourishing ecological and recreational wetland environment. Westgate Park offers a range of attractions and activities, located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge; the park offers spectacular views to the mouth of the Yarra and the city skyline. Enjoy a picnic lunch with friends or family or cycle along the Yarra River or the Port Melbourne foreshore. The healthy bird population also attracts bird watching enthusiasts. Barbecues and picnic areas are free and available for shared use. Westgate Park is located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River, under the Westgate Bridge. Access is via Todd Rd or near the end of Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne.

Come here on a hot sunny day to get a perfect shot of the pink lake, or else it will not look as pinky as the pic I took :)

Parents, pick your times - loiterers hovering around the public toilets was a BIG turn off for me! Other than that, the council/friends of have gone to great effort to try to make the place the nature haven that it could otherwise be.

Nice park that truly radiates a pink lake. Carpark is quite busy. Is a well known meet up place place for men and funny business. Be wary of reciprocating the friendly smile. Unless thats your thing it should be fun. The lake it self is...More

Definitely make the trip to Westgate park - the pink lake is stunning. Such a beautiful place full of nature considering how close it is to the bridge and the city. We went in the evening and the sunset just looked gorgeous. Highly recommend.

It smells like sulphur and the lake is still pink at the moment! I do love this park. Feel like you are out in the Bush, but in the middle of the city.

The lake has returned to its pink colour in the past week or so. Definitely worth taking a trip here if you have never seen a pink lake.

The main reason for our visit of Westgate park on 17 February 2018 was to see the pink lake. But unfortunately since April 2017 this lake is no longer pink. The park includes a few nice walk routes around a couple of lakes with different...More

Locals know about this park. And it has a lovely bike path along it. But getting to it is awkward without a bike. It's not somewhere you'd go if you weren't with someone who knew where they were going. You'd also want to be on...More

Westgate Park is in the middle of an old industrial area. The vegetation consists mainly of Australian native plants, which are \fighting back after almost 100 years of industrialisation. The park is quite extensive and it includes several lakes within its boundaries.
