This is one place everyone has to visit. Simply stunning. We stayed overnight near the lake but only had enough time to catch a boat cruise with David Dodd which turned out to be fantastic as he also had to do a water taxi run...More

OK, I am cheating as I did this trip a year earlier, early February. The weather was perfect, few people on the track , huts and lake almost to myself. The traditional route is to scale the bluff first. I am on the wrong side...More

The hike is great but much harder and steeper than the doc maps show. The huts are filthy except for the first ones which are new. No gas and water is in the tanks. You need someone to show you how it can be accessed.

We did the tramp in 3 days and it was tough but achievable. We were blessed with perfect weather, even a bit hot at some times, and only short muddy areas. The huts were pretty good but overbooked. over 30 people in each one each...More

Tramped mid-storm and torrential rain. Great cabins, still enjoyed it with terrible weather conditions! Korokoro waterfall worth the extra push.

It rained real bad, but when the rain stopped they were peaty near the water. They local organic repellant is relatively cheap and highly effective. We used it and were never bothered!!
