Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari make it easy to experience the astonishingly abundant wildlife of the beautiful Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. Our 4.5 hour marine eco-safari offers guaranteed Whale and Dolphin viewing year-round, departing direct from the Viaduct Harbour in down-town Auckland.

But we offer so much more than just Whale and Dolphin watching. The privilege of operating daily within this world-class conservation area has inspired us to establish New Zealand's only research-based marine mammal experience. Working closely with the Department of Conservation and local Universities we successfully combine up-close and personal viewing of Whales, Dolphins and Sea-birds with important Marine Biology research conducted on-board. This allows passengers the chance to encounter, understand and above-all help protect this incredible resource of marine life.

There's no need to travel far to have a truly world-class wildlife adventure. With over one third of all the world’s marine-mammal species seen within the area the amazing Hauraki Gulf Marine Park is one of the best places on the entire planet to see whales and dolphins, and it’s right on Auckland’s doorstep!

1/ We didn't see any whales but nothings guaranteed - but never mind as 2/ The trip was absolutely fantastic for anyone who wants to see wildlife and birds up close and personal doing awesome natural behaviour. The trip starts with the usual briefing but with a great deal of humour which lasts for the rest of the afternoon. The... More

My wife and 7-year-old daughter were really looking forward to this. We'd read the reviews, and we really thought seeing dolphins would be a sure-fire hit. Unfortunately though due to high seas, we weren't able to follow their normal path, so we didn't see any marine life. Several people were sick too, which made the trip even more unpleasant. To... We were lucky to have a very fine day in Auckland so water was very flat. We had great fun watching the dolphins play around the boat. To our excitment, the crew on board spotted a whale in the distance, so we spent a good 45mins chasing him around the Hauraki Gulf trying to get a good view. Staff were... More

We had an amazing and beautiful day filled with several pods of common dolphins, a couple of smooth hammerhead sharks, 2 Bryde's whales (a mother and her calf), penguins, and lots of other sea birds (gannets, petrels, including the storm petrel, and shearwaters). The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We highly recommend this experience!

A most pleasant experience to be on board with a friendly crew and captain - some of whom were also marine biologists/researchers from Auckland University. With such expertise on hand and ever ready to share their knowledge to help us better understand these beautiful creatures. I felt the experience was more fulfilling than just going to see dolphins and then... More
