What a great way to see the island and To look back at Auckland. Our tour guide was fantastic, loved the Dad jokes. He really knew the island and all of its history. It was amazing to see all of the Basalt and to learn...More

Great day trip from Auckland. A slightly challenging walk to the summit girls beautiful 360 degree views of the Hauraki gulf. Make sure you wear strong footwear as the volcanic rocks are very sharp.

Very cool and unique experience, to climb to the rim of a recent volcano for the area. Good quick getaway from the busy city. Keep in mind the walk is 2hr return and the last ferry is very early at 3.30pm.

Fabulous trip out to the island. It's a little bit of work walking up to the summit but there are plenty of places to rest. There's an amazing view from the summit - pretty much 360 degrees. There's an incredible silence while you view the...More

Very easy to get to using the ferry from Auckland. We were fortunate to have good weather for the walk to the summit. Great views awaited us and as we climbed the island - especially from the top. The climb is a steady one, but...More

I went there on a weekend so it was really busy and really noisy. It was hard to get some quiet space to listen to nature (bird songs...). The transportation wasn't planned properly so a number of us were left on the island after the...More

I live in Auckland and see Rangitoto every day. So mysterious. Totally unique ecosystem that grew up in the lava. Not too hard of a walk, though I do recommend allowing a whole day and keep an eye on the ferry times. Visitors and locals...More

The first half of this tour was fascinating. The island is all volcanic lava flow, so the road was chiseled out with picks and shovels. The stair climb to the top of the volcano is a long one, so pace yourself. The views from the...More

I took the 9:15 shuttle ($30 round trip), stopped in Devonport, and arrived to Rangitoto by 9:40. There were only about 20 people on my ferry so we more or less had the island to ourselves until the next ferry showed. There is a toilet...More

Yes, but bring a raincoat and warm clothes. The paths are solid so it is not muddy.

It is shaded half the time if not more. It get's steep but it is a path on an incline not climbing steep rocks. There are some stairs on the way not a lot but there are as you reach the summit which have various... More
