Fun 2 hour loop hike to the summit of Rangitoto (300m). The views are beautiful on a sunny day. It costs $30 for the ferry per person. They are particular about preserving biodiversity of the island, so be careful not to drop/leave food on the...More

I first took the summit track. At the summit, the view to the Hauraki Gulf is spectacular. I went down following the Summit Road heading to Islington Bay. On this way, you get to see different views of the gulf. Arriving Islington Bay, I crossed...More

Nice couple of hours of walk where you can see lava stones, caves and admire the view from the top of the summit. There was not much info about the history or geology of the island (at least I don't remember seeing any info boards).

I went here with some backpacker friends for day. The hike is lovely and ferry ride nice too. Bring the food as no place to eat.

We took the Fullers Ferry to the Island and Tractor/Trailer with informative commentary. The boardwalk to the summit with excellent views and a walk on the path around the crater gave us a good perspective of the harbour. Very good outing.

It is shaded half the time if not more. It get's steep but it is a path on an incline not climbing steep rocks. There are some stairs on the way not a lot but there are as you reach the summit which have various... More
