The national park with its amazing scenes is close to Auckland (30-60 mins driving). I definitely recommend a stop by the information centre to enjoy the panoramic views and have a chat with the helpful staff about where to visit in the park.

Definitely recommend this location. Arataki provides excellent knowledge of the area if you are new here. There are numerous walking trails and the West Coastline Beaches are famous.

We often take the kids at preschool to Arataki, they learn valuable lessons about nature and respect for the environment. The people here are really helpful.

It's great anytime of year. Nice and cool in summer and in the wet weather the bush gives off a really special aroma. But have waterproof jackets and good walking shoes, because you will get everytning wet
