I caught the morning ferry across to tiritiri matangi, and the afternoon ferry back so all in all it was about a 7 hour trip. The island has been completely reforested since years of previous deforestation and the birds are being reintroduced. I would highly recommend the guided tour bird walk (buy online in advance for $10) which was led... More

It is birdwatchers heaven. The sounds of birds in a very unique peaceful and well looked after environment, is amazing. The walk guide Carol was very enthusiastic and informative. Highly recommended trip if you are near Auckland.

According to one of the regulars this was the roughest trip in three years. With stomach intact we arrived to dry skies and a wonderfully informatively day. Our guide was well researched and full of enthusiasm. The work done by a volunteer brigade was outstanding and the wild life had all the benefit. A brilliant day out anda much smoother... More

This history of this island which was completely reforested by volunteer efforts is amazing enough, but the array of native birds making their home on the island gives you almost a "one-stop shopping" opportunity. The volunteer guides really love what they are doing and I would strongly recommend taking a guided tour as part of your visit (the 2-3 hour... More

This was on my must do list during our trip to New Zealand and I wasn't disappointed. I saw over 50 new species that I will never get another chance to see in the wild unless of course, we visit New Zealand again! I would highly recommend booking the guided walk ($10 pp) as the guides are very informative and... More

A scenic ferry ride from either Auckland city or Gulf Harbour will take you to one of Aucklands hidden treasures. This island managed by Doc is predator free and home to many native bird species. There are lovely board walk tracks to follow with regular seating opportunities to watch the birds feeding. At the top there is a chance to... More

What a wonderful day. I would highly recommend the guided tour. Well worth the money. The tour guides' knowledge is amazing. What an amazing way to see endangered and endemic species. This was a highlight of my trip to Auckland.

it is so wonderful to see all kinds of birds from new zealand rt when you come to see the lighthouse... it is also a good hike up to the lighthouse for a wonderful view of unspoiled nature... we thoroughly enjoyed all of that and highly recomend it for anybody coming to Auckland.

Fantastic day trip to a beautiful island crammed full of native birds - informative without being oppressive. Great views and excellent service from Fuller's - something so close to Auckland that taking visitors is a must!
