I did the one hour walking tour of Napier which started with a very informative video about the earthquake that flattened Napier in 1931. Our guide Anita was very knowledgeable and pointed out things that you would walk straight past normally.

We went on the morning Art Deco Tour run by the Trust. They first showed us a short but very informative film on the earthquake and then we walked a tour around the city looking at all the buildings. The guide was most knowledgeable on the recent and not so recent history of Napier and we found the tour very... More

And provided A most interesting tour. Well worth the money. Lots of information about the earthquake and how the city was rebuilt. Not quite sure that we will retain much about Art Deco as a genre but the volunteer who escorted us round the city was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. The Centre is wonderful but hang on to your purse!

The tour with the The Art Deco Trust was very interesting and most enjoyable. You were not overwhelmed with too much information but enough to keep up the interest. The history and lovely buildings were great to see in all the colours they can use today. Some you could explore at the end of the tour at your leisure. It... More

I hope that I have got the right place to begin. When we went to the i-site in Napier to ask for a map of Art Deco buildings we were sent to what I thought was the Art Deco Centre. Anyway for the tiny price of $10 we were given a map of a self guided walk of all the... More

I did the morning Art Deco walking tour, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide really knew her stuff and clearly loves, and appreciates, her town. I was amazed that enough footage has survived to create the very informative 20 minute video (definitely worth the time)- that and the walk give you an excellent overview of the history and Art Deco... We did an Art Deco Trust tour of the downtown core but our guide seemed more keen to share where family members had been during the 1931 earthquake, where she had walked etc.

The fabulous Mick took us on our walking tour. Such a top bloke. Knew all the locals as we walked around. Full of information and anecdotes. Movie at the start gave us insight to what the town and community went through. Gorgeous shop. Puchased a lamp to be shipped home. So excited.

With only one day in Napier, and a forecast of rain, we thought a quick walking tour would give us a first introduction, and as it turned out that is exactly what this tour delivered. Our excellent guide (Wiki?) gave a really useful initial overview about how the 1934(?) earthquake altered the terrain and effectively 'drained' the lake inland, with... More

Fascinating tour of some notable Art Deco buildings and the new Sea Walls murals, with an excellent explanation of the 1931 earthquake and the subsequent rebuilding. Our driver Tere was a gem.
