Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. This was the best visit of my 3 months in NZ. I mean sure, the south island is better overall, without comparison. However Tamaki village was the best single attraction I went to in NZ and I could not recommend it more to anyone! I went as part of the Kiwi Experience bus. 10/10

Bus guide was excellent and made the trip there and back part of the whole experience, embracing the many cultures in attendance. The whole experience was very educational, social and cultural. Well paced to keep the evening moving and finished at a reasonable time. The person leading the night was excellent in all aspects. Thanks for the great experience.

The tour to the village was very informative on the Maori history, food and culture. The tour opened with a war canoe coming up the river filled with Maori warriors chanting war cries. We visited a village and learned how the Maori lived, then a show with songs and dance, followed by a Maori Buffet and finishing up with a... More

We were picked up from our hotel by the free service offered by the Tamaki Maori Village (TMV). The whole evening's entertainment was exactly as described in their website. The only bone of contention was there was not much opportunity for photos with the entertainers as we were divided into groups and rotate around the different segments they have such... More

I am not usually a fan of "cultural" offerings but this demonstration, show and dinner was wonderful. The evening started with an informative 15 minute bus ride to a full sized model of an ancient Maori village, followed by a traditional welcoming ceremony, demonstration of Maori warrior training (ncluding the Hakka). The evening concluded with traditional Maori song and dance... More

The staff really love their culture and absolutely love to share it! They answered any questions you had, and tried to keep the light and fun so that everyone would enjoy while learning a bit about the culture. If you are looking for something a little different or are wanting to soak up the culture, this is for you!

We learned a lot about the Maori culture and history. You'll take a bus from Rotorua to get there, which adds time overall. Upon arrival, you're greeted in a traditional way and go station to station in small groups to have a more intimate experience. Why not 5 stars? Dinner was served at 9 PM, which was too late for... This is a great night out but also very informative regarding the Maori way of life. Our group was picked up from the hotel by a crazy driver (Denis the menace) The entire evening including the coach journey to and from the venue is full of 'audience participation' no one escapes but have a go and join in you'll have... Going into the Tamaki Maori Village experience, we expected an educational and cultural evening but found ourselves lost in what felt like a Maori-themed entertainment park with busloads of tourists. The tour was just too crowded: we shared the evening with 4 other busloads, so all in all a good 200 people. Kudos to the tribe and staff for trying... More

What a great night and educational experience. We loved it and it was a ton of fun. The whole staff was excellent and made us feel as a part of their tribe. You'll love it and have a great night. Food is ok, but lacks flavor. That wouldn't stop me for going however...totally worth the culture experience!
