Rotorua Museum is currently closed for earthquake strengthening. In the meantime Rotorua Museum is running a limited programme of exhibitions, events and education programmes in other venues around Rotorua. We also run free twice-daily tours (11am & 2pm) in Government Gardens - including the history of the buildings, battles and historical sites around the gardens, the sculpture trail, and the ongoing programme that has seen the release of several endangered New Zealand falcons into the gardens. Please visit www.rotoruamuseum.co.nz for latest information including status updates, tour details and our current programme of events, exhibitions and education.

This is a beautiful building to look at, but the museum is closed. The building is not up to earthquake standards, so it has been closed to the public.

Sadly this majestic building was closed due to earthquake strengthening but still worth a drive by. It truly is a hint of years gone by architecture. So awesome they are spending time and money to fully repair this masterpiece. Next time in Rotorua I’m sure...More

We didn't go inside, and I'm not even sure you can go inside. It looked pretty closed to us. Nevertheless, it's a must see here in Rotorua. The building is stunning and if you go later in the afternoon or early evening, you'll get amazing...More

The oldest building in Rotorua with a colourful history. However it was closed from last year because of the earthquake that happened a year ago. Even then, this building is the most distinctive in Rotorua. So one has to come!

The museum was closed for maintenance. However, the parks around it are historical and beautiful. There is a nice, small rose garden close to the museum. You can also access the beaches on the lake within a short walking distance from the museum.

It's regrettable that the museum was closed during visit but it was still beautiful from outside. The garden is still well worth your visit despite the setback.

Building is closed indefinitely due to the need to carry out strengthening work in the event of an earthquake. There's temporary fencing that has been erected around it that detracts from how photogenic it is as it's certainly a grand old building and very elegant.

Arrived at the impressive building but it was closed indefinitely. The grounds look nice , building from a distance looks great but security fencing all around.
