Beautiful grounds and excellent cultural exhibits.

This is an excellent museum telling the story of the Maori people and the local area. Well worth the visit.

This is a very good local museum, full of Rororua's fascinating Maori and then Pakeha history and with a good section on the major earthquake in the region in the 1880s. Quite easy to spend 2 hours or more in the museum

Sad to say folks, the museum is currently CLOSED as being not safe to enter at the moment due to the unfortunate 7.8 earthquake that shook NZ a couple of weeks ago! However, you can still visit the outside of the magnificent wooden building and take a free guided museum grounds walk . .where you can also look at the... More

We visited to see something of local history and the Rembrandt Remastered exhibition. We have been lucky enough to see quite a few of the Rembrandts in the original. The digital renderings don't match up but are much better than books or prints. Interesting concept and worthwhile.

Worth taking one of the hourly free guided tours for lots of local history including that of the building itself, which was originally built as baths. We had a very enjoyable couple of hours there and had lunch a the on site cafe which was well priced, great food and good coffee.

The museum focuses on three main areas The baths which were the original reason for the creation of the building and which provided the original attraction to Rotorua for overseas travelers. A small area which I assume changes and which held a painting exhibit when I was there. The third area is dedicated to Maori culture. I found the first... More
