I love this museum, the history of the building and even the new renovations. The building is very Victorian, great statues throughout and informative information. The little theatre telling the story of the Tarawera eruption is always fun.

The museum is no longer open to the public which is truely sad but it is still very easy to enjoy even from the outside. There are free tours around the museum and gardens now. Great place for a picnic and or walk.

Because of an earthquake you cannot go inside the actual museum but just looking from the outside is so beautiful. In the morning the sun rises from behind the museum giving it an amazing natural light. In the evening they light it up with different...More

This building is just gorgeous but was all blocked off after earthquake damage mid 2016. We took a guided walk around the park which was conducted by a lovely female volunteer. It was a rainy drizzly day too. She told us all about the history...More

I didn't go into the museum but this is a beautiful building from the exterior and worth a walk round the gardens if you have at least 15mins to spare on a nice day.

A very educational museum about a super exciting culture that differs from other cultures. A lot to see and we also saw a highly appreciated dance show with Maorier. Very nice museum! //Mats Samaras, Stockholm, Sweden

Unfortunately, due to the November 2016 earthquake, the museum was being renovated, so I did not get to see the interior of the building, but it has such a gorgeous exterior. From its apex to the detailing of its windows and color, I am sure...More

We went there last week, but unfortunately the museum is closed for repair and restoration work. Reconfirm status before you plan your day three. It is surrounded by garden area therefore one can spend some time there.
