We were staying at Millennium, so literally on the banks. Took several strolls on the bank, very nice experience and sights. One can see the thermal vapors rising up from several places.

We wanted to take a nice walk along the lake, but after 40 min had to ran back to the hotel - the "rotten egg"-smell of the sulphur gas was too overwhelming! Even at the hotel we could feel it as well.

We traveled almost all the way around the lake. As a matter of fact, the facility where we were staying was on the lake. It was beautiful and COLD (I took my shoes off and waded in to test the water temperature)!

I took a breakfast cruise on the paddle boat. It was 1 hour around the lake and the breakfast was great.

The lake is at one side of the town. Great views. Wonderful walks. Marvellous natural wonders. One of many lakes in NZ.

Absolutely recommended while having an ice cream from the place that's at the end of the Eatery street. Lots of families enjoying sunny days there and nice views.

Even on just the north island, and in this immediate area, there are tons of lakes. This lake has a boardwalk but not much to see. It does have the added benefit of the Soundshell market on Sundays though. If you're nearby, take a look....More
