This is an easy walk along a broadwalk a lot of the way. It is a bird sanctuary and you can spot many various kinds. There are information boards along the way to help you identify them. Lovely flat easy walk

It was a great walk but I think the recommended grading is greater than it says. Need to be fit. and takes longer than they say. but still worth it.

Nice walkway and track, but does get muddy after rain, or even parts under a little water, so check the forecast.

Lots of bird life, and wetland vegetation. There is a hide where you can watch the birds without disturbing them. We saw black swans, NZ scaup, Pied shags, Black shags, white faced herons, paradise ducks, welcome swallows and a harrier hawk. The sun was out and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk.

I choose to do an hour and a half walk at this location as I was told it was a good spot to find the New Zealand Dabchick (a bird). Mission accomplished with sightings of many other bird too. It is an easy and pleasant walk (level ground) around a very attractive lake.

We were early for our accommodation and decided to visit the lake as it's only a short drive out of town. We first stopped at the boat ramp area where there's toilets and picnic areas with nice views out across the lake. Then drove on to where the walkway starts - there's a car park and the first bit of... More

We were surprised by the amount of birdlife in the area - so many varieties, so close to view. Lovely views across the lake. Easy walk with boardwalk for nearly all of walk.

This is a 5.5km walk by Lake Okareka which is very pleasant although don't forget to sunscreen on a hot day as it's exposed and not under bush much. We enjoyed walking beside the wetlands where a variety of birds are nesting, particularly the Canadian geese. This track is flat so suitable for young children, buggies and wheel chairs. The... I've been in Rotorua a long time and never knew this place existed. What a beautiful spot. Allow 2 hours to do the full walk, and don't forget your camera!

My wife and I often go there - picnics and just for a flat walk - with a camera for company! I wish they would allow dogs on a lead - and maybe improve the toilets at the end of the walk! But go there, take a drink and a sandwich, there are plenty of useful places to sit and... More
