Experience the beautifully restored garden and Chapman-Taylor home. Sculpted from a hillside overlooking the Waiwhakaiho River, this is a premier landscaped garden. Sense the prestige, lifestyle and stories of the property's original developer, the prominent businessman Sir Russell Matthews, and his family. Enjoy a game of tennis, make use of the free barbeque on the River Flat, find a quite spot to read a book or just appreciate the beauty of Tupare. Owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. Enjoy it - it's yours.

You need a car to access this property and to be reasonable mobile but it is worth a visit, as are most of the iconic gardens in New Plymouth

This is great as you can walk as little or as much as you want. The walk down to the river is worth it and then up to the top. Would be great to take a picnic and be down by the river

This estate - situated a short drive outside the centre - used to belong to a wealthy couple and must have been given to the public some time ago. You can easily spend hours walking, sitting, enjoying peace and quiet. Car park.

Lose yourself for an hour or two wandering around these lovely gardens. The paths are good although there are a few small steep sections.
