Even though I have lived in Taranaki all my life, I have never been to this wonderland until this year. I was totally blown away and felt like I had stepped into a fairytale. The view, gardens and the house are just beautiful. It is...More

Friends and I visited this garden and yes there was a lot of beautiful trees and flowers but it was up and down to walk and I didn't find it appealing myself at all.

The gardens are beautiful and will be even better in a few weeks. There are very good walks through the gardens and down by the river. It is a great place for all the family and there are good spots for a picnic.

Worth a visit at any time of the year. The huge trees are really what make it, but if you get a chance to tour the house that is such a bonus. Even better, it's free - such a contrast to the totally overpriced and...More

The garden is beautiful, and the house is well worth a viewing. It gives food for thought about how others lived and the perception we have of the better off. If you go, give a thought for the young sons. We were lucky enough to...More

Thanks for your review. Yes, you're right - the music and tent cafe were just here for one weekend of the garden festival so you really picked a good time to visit. However it's always beautiful at Tupare and usually very peaceful.

This was a delightful place to visit. Wonderfully and lovingly designed and maintained gardens and grounds. We were lucky enough to be visiting when the local symphony orchestra was playing - very special indeed. Definitely make a point of spending some time here!

Beautiful setting with quite steep paths down to the main gardens for those who might struggle getting back up. Lovely viewpoints of all the flowers and shrubs etc, all well-maintained. Easy way to enjoy an hour in the fresh air, or longer if you are...More

Thanks for your review, Mike. For most visitors the hill back to the carpark is good exercise but for the less able, we do have a mobility vehicle which we can use to give a ride back, if it's organised in advance. Glad to hear...More

Tupare was our best public garden experience in Taranaki - Pukeiti is impressive but almost presupposes serious knowledge of rhodos, camellias and azaleas; Pukekura is undoubtedly an asset for New Plymouth, but a bit like many other botanical gardens (not helped by the emptied lake...More

Thanks for your review. Though a bit hard to read as we love all our public gardens and they all have their own special character, it's great to hear that you loved Tupare. Unfortunately we can't have someone on hand to do guided tours of...More

Best here was the history on display right through the property. Gardens were great with plenty flowering in early October. Entry is free to all with good parking at the entry. BBQ facilities available in lower paddock for an extended stay. Property is steep in...More

This is another lovely green space in New Plymouth. It covers a large area and has an abundant supply of awesome colour and frangrance. Well worth a visit, particularly for plant lovers, but also great for an Interesting stroll.
