Even though the cathedral itself is currently closed, it is still beautiful to see. The grounds are stunning and peaceful with wild cala lilies and the most stunning old oak tree I have ever seen.

This church has an amazing history going back to the local Maori Wars which is reflected in the graves surrounding it - it has been closed for earthquake strengthening / renovating but if it's open is well worth the time to have a look inside.

Beautiful building and very interesting to stroll around the grounds, however a shame we couldn’t view inside the Cathedral; there is a doorway you can look through with a timer light, however the light didn’t seem to be working! Worth a visit none the less.

This church is not far out of the center of town. It is a beautiful building and worth a look but the inside is closed as it is being reinforced for earthquakes.

In so many ways the cathedral opens a window directly into the minds and hearts of the people during the NZ wars. Will you be able to deal with the inscriptions on the old graves from the day?
