Description:

Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand....

Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand. Sail Barbary is an all-year-round top rated Taupo activity; offering relaxation, fun and adventure on the water the Kiwi way.

Taupo's Maori Rock Carvings are possibly the largest of their type in the world and are a must-see attraction, only accessible by boat. Resembling the remains of ancient Maori civilization, they were created in the late 70s by a group of artists led by artist John Randall and reach a height of over 10 meters! Barbary has been offering sailing cruises to these carvings for over 30 years.

Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves; you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. You’re guaranteed amazing photo opportunities as you experience one of life’s postcard moments. You can even BYO (Bring Your Own) food and beverages. Things really couldn’t get more Kiwi!

As New Zealand’s only commercially operated electric yacht - We're equipped for all conditions; if the wind dies down, Barbary's eco-friendly electric engine kicks in, moving her noiselessly through the water. When the wind is up, you can enjoy sailing without salty sea-spray and noisy outboard motors. Warm ponchos are supplied.

Sail Barbary cruises to the Maori Rock Carvings depart daily at 10.30am, 2.00pm, and 5.00pm (*5.00pm Summer Only).

As New Zealand’s only floating cinema – a Movie Cruise Charter makes for a fantastic and unique night out. Enjoy the sunset, then sit back on a comfy bean bag and enjoy a blockbuster movie on the sails under the summer’s starry night sky. Warm ponchos are supplied (or simply cuddle up to someone special!).

We don’t promise the best cruise on the lake, we deliver it!

We joined the 5pm Sail, beautiful perfect evening low wind so we made the journey out under engine power, whilst eating our complimentary pizzas and drink. watched the world go by so relaxing. We arrived at the rock carvings plenty of time to take pictures and swim, by then the wind picked up for an exhilarating fast Sail back in... More

I am so disappointed. My husband and I were really looking forward to this boat trip and we were let down on so many levels. 1. One of my biggest issues. The company completely lied to us and messed us around. We booked a 10:30am sail well in advance, a few days later we were contacted to tell us that... More

Barbary Sail back up their sailing trip to the rock carvings with an electric motor. Unfortunately the weather was beautiful for our cruise and we were only ever actually 'under sail' for two minutes at the end of our cruise. It was a lovely peaceful way to end our day in Taupo - Barbary providing a glass of wine and... More

We were very lucky with the weather, a lovely warm Summers morning with calm water and a little breeze. We were taken for a sail to the rocks where our skipper talked us through the history of the lake, Taupo and Maroi culture. The boat was very comfortable and the whole experience was very relaxing. We saw the beautiful rock... More

After attempting to drive/walk/swim to the rock carvings -- which is basically impossible since they are on private property -- we saw the beautiful Barbary sail boats sailing in the distance, which looked more than ideal. We quickly checked their website online and there was availability for the 2PM tour so we booked (SO EASY). Our Captain was the owner... More

This was a fabulous way to end the hot sunny day! Sailed from 5pm until just past 730. Jaimie the owner was super friendly and knowledgable on all the various questions asked. I would highly recommend it to others!

We took the afternoon sail to the rock carvings and were with James and 8 other passengers. It was a lovely afternnon and the wind picked up enough on the way back for a good sail. I liked the fact that oassenger numbers were limited so that there was plenty of space and the opportunity for everyone to get involved... More

We did the boat trip when the weather wasn't looking very good, but apparently the weather on the lake is totally different to the shore. This was proved correct as the weather was beautiful once we left the shore. Amazing day out with Jamie, carvibgs were great and the sail back was awesome. Brilliant value for money. Thanks again!
