So we checked this out on a Saturday afternoon. It was packed, and it was awesome. It was free and we had kids with us, so having other ppl and kids around was fun! It was an excellent experience, don't go looking for an exclusive 'spa experience' go looking for something your friends haven't done! Something really unusual. Everyone was... More

We knew about the thermal spots around New Zealand and were excited to find one close to us as we visited Taupo. Right after breakfast we drove to the park which is right in town. Drive to the end of the car park and then walk down the path. There were already several people there when we arrived about 8AM,... More

What could be better than a free spa day outdoors with a great view. You sit in a hot natural pool and only few steps away get to cool down in a cold river. It is a very popular place so don't expect to be alone there but hey, it's free so can't complain.

The Spa Thermal Park is a big grassy area leading to a little natural hot spring. It can comfortably accommodate about 5-10 people but every time I've been there it is super busy (20 or more people). Having said that, it's a little bit neat, so I take visitors there.

Great to be able to enjoy the hot springs without paying anything for the privilege. Look out for the second hot pool a few yards behind the first; most people miss it so you can usually have it to yourself.

Go early and avoid the crowds. I can imagine it isn't half as beautiful when tour buses arrive (and we heard they do)! Hot springs, followed by splashes in the Waikato River.

We walked from the park, past the hot springs where many people were bathing. It takes about 1.5 hours return walk to Huka falls which is a great walk. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs as there are quite a few steep hills to climb up and down. Fantastic views of the river for most of the way. Quite shady... More
