On the off chance on our way through Wellington for one Sunday night we found out here was a 5pm performance of Hudson & Halls Live! Really enjoyable play in a very interesting venue. The theatre is a studio type theatre so you are very close to the stage and the seat taking us such that your view is not... More

A great night out with a group of 11 friends. The Don Giovanni cast (2nd cast) were very entertaining and gave a professional performance. Being seated close to the stage, gave the feeling of being part of the story. Always a great venue to attend opera or plays.

Enjoyed watching this play with my Aunty. A great migration story. Not normally how I would spend a Tuesday night but glad I tried something different. It was a bonus attending the opening night with the wine and nibbles after the play.

Downstage is currently closed as a company yes.. but its historic Hannah Playhouse still hosts occasional shows and is currently being used to host the national children's theatre company Capital E when they are in town with their amazing touring performances. You may be lucky when you visit, and there may be a show on using the theatre space. An... More

We have been to this establishment numerous times all of them memorable. Have been living some many miles away so have not visited as regularly as we would have wished. Sorry to report as at October 2013 it is closing any day unfortunately!

Tickets are a bit more expensive than Bats, and the productions are a lot less traditional than Circa, but Downstage is a safe bet that you'll see something great, different, and worth your time and money.

The programme from Downstage is usually a little more "artistic" rather than mainstream but the plays I have been to have been enjoyable, memorable and well performed.

This theatre is no longer the best in Wellington it has been superseeded by Circa and Bats but it still has some good shows

Front row seats put you below the level of the stage. You have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the theatre The bar is too small for a full house
