Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

After having spent hours at Te Papa I was happily surprised with Wellington Museum. It's much smaller and a little bit more quirky which I liked. It doesn't take itself as seriously as Te Papa and felt much more cosy. I went on Steampunk weekend and sat in on the Intro to Steampunk and Steampunk fashion talks which were interesting... More

Wellington is very lucky to have such a great little Museum of their own history as well as a dash of NZ. Very interesting and well worth a visit, especially if you're looking to fill in a couple of hours on a chilly day.

An interesting museum which tells the story of Wellington and its history. Lots of unusual exhibits presented in and unstuffy way, often as tableaux. Lots of interesting photos from the past with comprehensive descriptions. Good place to visit on a cold or wet day.

I'm a Wellington local & love this place. There is so much to see & absorb. Something for everyone from the quirky 'Attic', the solemn & somber information about the Wahine disaster, plus the excellent 100-years of history about Wellington.

Exceptionally well done museum documenting the history of this amazing city and it's people. Historic and quirky displays fill its floors. Our hearts go out to its friendly residents who were shaken by a recent earthquake.

Thoroughly enjoyed this museum. Every floor had great interactive exhibits however my favourite thing has to be the Wahine exhibition. Very sad and harrowing event however this has been done in a very precise and thoughtful way. The film was very touching and it was humbling to see how people developed their own coping mechanism . Particularly touched by the... More

This is well worth a visit: not too big to be overpowering as some museums can be; authentic artefacts well displayed with about the right amount of written info

Bad news, it is mostly about just the one city. Good news, the history of Wellington is presented fairly, (good and bad). Very cool holographic display on the third floor with holographic actors walking through the artifacts.
