Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

We went in because it was between our hotel and the restaurant where we wanted to have dinner, not knowing anything about the museum. But it was lovely. Many seafaring exhibits.

While it will always probably live in the shadows of Te Papa across the Quay, this is worth a short visit. It is in a busy area and free. Worth a stop.

The museum is free admission. There is a very nice exhibit on the history and development of Wellington and the significance as a port city. The exhibit on the Wahini ship tragedy was very interesting. A great museum, allow between 1 to 1.5 hrs to complete tour.

This museum is free. It is housed in a building in the wharf area. The history of Wellington is well depicted. We were able to see all within one hour.

Wonderfully informative displays about Wellington's history and people. The story of the Wahine tragedy is especially moving. A super place to visit.

This museum was quite small but each of the floors was quite unique and interesting. Especially loved the videos shown on various topics. The top floor had a cool time machine video exhibition.
