White sand, blue sea, a cafe by the water,,,this is a lovely place to be on a warm and windless day! Safe swimming, albeit chilly, means it is popular and during the best days of summer it can be difficult to find a parking space. Feels a world away from the city, even though it is just around the corner.

Scorching Bay is definitely the nicest beach Wellington has to offer. It is quite a drive around the bays to get there, but so worth it. The white sandy beaches are just unlike any other beach in Wellington. The rock pools surrounding Scorching Bay make for great snorkeling on a clear day or just for the kids to explore. If... More

Love love this place when its not crowded. When its crowded don't go unless you like having very little personal space. It is very very popular in summer.

Scorching Bay is a really lovely place to visit. We travelled along the coast road and stopped off at at a few of the bays, this being one of them. It overlooks the harbour and we were lucky enough to see the Interislander ferry leaving Wellington. The drive along the coast was just spectacular and one of the highlights from... More

Stunning location overlooking the harbour and the harbour entrance. Sandy beach and close to Scorchorama cafe... get's really busy on a sunny day...you have been warned. Well worth the short trip though.

Definitely worth an hour or even a walk or a bike around the Wellington Bays. Even a great day at the beach just basking in the sun and having a swim in the sea. Absolutely beautiful and like most things in Wellington. FREE!

Enjoyed a drive from the CBD to this cove. Had brunch at Scorch-o-rama and had a pleasant meal. Would recommend the full day to stop and hike around the area as well

There are some restaurants near this beach, and it is accessible with a public transport, so there will be some people all the time. However, much less crowded than the Oriental Bay beach.

A favourite spot for quiet contemplation in winter and family fun in summer. A local cafe provides wholesome fair that hits the spot for any time of the year
