What a lovely stroll through the native bush to Lake Matheson. It truly is a special place in Fox Glacier. I would recommend an tourist come here and take the iconic photo of Mt Cook reflecting on the lake. Mint.

Hadnt seen pictures before we did the walk but was amazed at the wonderful reflections. Ended up going back the next day and doing the walk again just to stop and admire the reflections. It felt so peaceful

We had high hopes especially because of the high rated reviews about Lake Matheson but we did not find the location as good as the pictures published. Disappointed.

The walk itself is awesome when Its sunny and not too much wind. Then you get a beautiful reflection of the mountains in the water.

Was a lovely walk around the lake - however due to it being the middle of the day, and the weather overcast we were unable to witness the amazing reflections that the lake is known for. For a decent time would suggest doing the entire circuit and be prepared for a long walk (roughly four or so hours from memory)... More

We took our chance to do this walk in the late afternoon on a cloudy day and was handsomely rewarded with the spectacular view and crisp reflection of the snow capped southern alps! Other than visiting Fox Glacier this is a must do easy walk for anyone visiting Fox Glacier.

the lake is a bit of a walk from the car park and the walk around the lake is about 4.5km. we did this on an overcast day so the reflection of mount cook could not be seen the reflection of the surrounding forest was nice.

Lake Matheson is located just outside the small town of Fox Glacier. We were there at the end of March 2017, the weather was still pretty warm but the mornings were a bit on the cold side. We got out to the lake around 7:30am, had a quick breakfast at the cafe before walking around the lake to see what... More

We spent a great couple of hours here, so quiet and peaceful, apart from some tourists who can't seem to keep quiet while taking endless selfies! Most of the time you can appreciate the peace and calmness that the forest and the lake inspire. The reflections are incredible, but there is so much more.

Most tourists get to the first lookout and then turn back but you will be well rewarded by doing the full circuit. Go anti clockwise to avoid the crowds at the start. On a clear day you can see Mt Cook reflected in the lake but on our overcast day we could only see clouds.
