After seeing the botanic gardens in Sydney, we didn't expect much from little Christchurch. So wrong. A lot of work and imagination has been put into this garden and the adjacent parks. Don't miss it!

One of our favourite spots in Christchurch. Beautiful setting and great for wearing out a two year old!

the Gardens by their nature (no pun intended) change every week. It is a privilege to have them in our City they are such an asset and a place for calm and tranquility. I often stroll there when i am thinking things out. A must do if you are visiting.

Very well cared for gardens & planting, lots of indigenous plant varieties in a natural-type setting, along with more formal planting gives the place the feel of a UK municipal park

I made it a point to walk through the gardens every day on my visit to Christchurch. The trees are fantastic, and the roses are stunning. It is free, and worth the visit!

We spent a lot of time here wandering through its pathways. The glasshouses close by 4pm so arrive earlier not to miss out. The rose garden was exeptional and probably the best I've ever seen. Not much perfume to the flowers though so they must only have new varieties. The herbaceous flowers were stunning too. The botanic garen is bordered... More

Great kids playground with separate areas for big kids and smaller kids. There was an outdoor swimming pool but it was too cold even on a sunny day in summer to use it. Cafe nearby to get ice-cream and take away coffee. Nearby clean, well maintained public toilets. Pram friendly, wide walking tracks through gardens. Nice rose garden. Lots of... More

A stunning must-see attraction. It's free too. The gardens are filled with history and so many exquisite garden spaces. From fruits and vegetables to ferns, towering pines and delicate dahlias. They have a wonderful visitor's centre with a cafe. There's also river punting for those keen to take a boat on the Avon. Pretty reasonably priced.

Spent a couple of hours walking around the gardens on a sunny day, plenty of places to sit. Loved the rose garden and aquatic areas

The flower beds were beautiful. The water fountains and water treatments were beautiful but what I liked the most was the trees. The gingko, the redwood, the sequoia, the oaks, the cedars and the pine trees - list goes on. Trees from Asia, North America, Europe and elsewhere. Best of all - they are all labeled. This was a nice... More
