Informative and full of archeological finds. Many displays showing the culture and civility of Maoris prior to European settlement. Easy to wander through gaining much information from each display. Wheelchair friendly.

This is a relatively small museum located in the city center, it is free entry. We went to see the National Geographic photography exhibit. There is a nice museum gift shop as well.

Entered museum 30 minutes before closing and staff was so nice and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the Fred and Myrtle exhibit. Best part was that it was free.

Great museum and adjacent to the botanical gardens so combine the 2! It's free of charge as well (or entry for gold coin donation) Finish with some dinner or coffee in town!

We stopped in the museum unplanned shortly before it closed. We went through quickly and saw they had some beautiful exhibits. Also the building itself is quite grand. Terrific staff. Certainly worth a more leisurely visit than we had time for
