I went to a themed night at the museum and had a great time. The staff were interested and very attentive and looked the part and kept in theme. The gallery are a mixture of old dioramas (which are fab) and newer space catering to...More

A great place to get a sense of the history of Christchurch and Canterbury. The stand out exhibit is the Antarctic Gallery which highlights the link between Antarctica and Christchurch for the early explorers to the modern day. Well worth a visit.

The museum has numerous static and interactive displays that had me stay longer than I thought I would. Well worth visiting.

A very interesting place to visit, even the children enjoy the different things they have offering at the museum, there is always something for them to do and learn while they are doing.

I love museums, so consider this the review of a museum nerd. Is this the most slick museum ever? Nope! It is, however, thoughtfully arranged and full of interesting exhibits. I'm baffled by a review stating that this museum is cluttered or confusing. It's a...More

I had to twist my husband's arm to get him inside, then I couldn't get him out! We spent the time I had allocated to the museum and most of the time I had allocated to the Botanic Garden! We truly loved the World War...More

A hard one to call here. There were lots of interesting stuff in the museum but the exhibits were cluttered and hard to follow. It felt very crowded. There had been some attempt to modernize with interactive displays which certainly worked for the kids there....More

The Canterbury Museum has some good exhibits related to the Maori Culture. Also there is an excellent exhibit detailing New Zealand's involvement in WW1 and the battles in Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine and France.

Went here yesterday for a University assignment. There’s usually great exhibitions on, earlier in the year there was a National Geographic Photography exhibition and yesterday and interactive Planet Earth one and a Global Warming one upstairs. You could spend ages there, great for younger kids...More

Hi there, I'd say at least 2-3 hours. Although I love history, I prefer to do museums in chunks otherwise, everything starts blending together. Maybe spend a little time there, then do one of the open bus tours which begin... More
