This is such a wonderful museum! The layout is splendid and the Antarctic section is a clear favourite. Strongly recommended.

There's a certain pleasantness about this museum. It's not only in a beautiful old stone building bordering the famous Botanic Gardens but it offers an easy, we'll set out way of learning about the history of Christchurch and Antarctic exploration but also has sections on...More

This is a museum you can keep coming back to. I really enjoy the Antarctic section, and the early Maori artefacts which contrast well with the Victorian street. Great for children's education.

We spent about an hour in the museum, although you could stay much longer. It was a great mix of artifacts, art, ceramics, etc. The museum seems very kid friendly as well. The temporary exhibit about Japanese tattoos was our favorite part.

Always an interesting place to visit. Has new special exhibits from time to time and a special children's area.

The museum is my daughters favourite place to visit. A donation as entrance and plenty to see and do. Better if there is an exhibition on. Just be aware that street parking can be scarce at times and expensive

Hi there, I'd say at least 2-3 hours. Although I love history, I prefer to do museums in chunks otherwise, everything starts blending together. Maybe spend a little time there, then do one of the open bus tours which begin... More
