We spent 17 days in south land , I didn't plan anything for Christchurch originally , because of the earthquake, we have to cancel our trip to Kaikoura due to the damage of the road and building . We got to spent our last 2 days in Christchurch! Willowbank is one of our point of interest because we never spot... More

This was an absolutely great trip through Canterbury Leisure Tours again had Sue as our driver host. By previous arrangement to suit our limited time in Christchurch we were dropped at WillowBank Kotane for cultural night including hangi buffet after another Canterbury Leisure Tour day activity, very accomodating and going the extra mile to please us the customer. We visited several kiwi preserves, but this was definitely the best experience. All the others had glass between the visitor and the birds. Because the kiwi are nocturnal their enclosures are only illuminated with red light, which glares against the glass and makes viewing difficult. Willowbank does not use glass, so the viewing experience is exceptional. But please don't take... More

My husband and I spent a couple of hours walking at a relaxed pace around this park. It is well set up (one way loop through the park) and there was a good selection of animals to see. We also got to see a kiwi in their dark enclosure. Generally the animals seemed happy and healthy and their enclosures clean... More

If you have kids specially toddler then it is one of the best place to enjoy. The birds, ducks, hens are free ranged. so kids can touch & have fun.But the water side should be more protective. some of the lake side is without any barriers. Waited too long for Kiwis but no luck.

Really enjoyed seeing all the different animals at this reserve! You can buy food to feed eels, farm animals, and birds!! My favorite was feeding the wallabies which we do not get the chance to encounter in the states!! We were also very excited to see some Kiwi!! Overall, a very fun trip!!

Started with feeding huge native eels; then deer, wallabies and many birds. Early NZ and rural life well portrayed. Saw rare nocturnal kiwi feeding, and many more. Fascinating for children and adults alike.
