The city council have done a great job of highlighting the river and making this a lovely walk. Christchurch is a great city for walking - up there with London & Paris.

This is a beautiful part of this lovely city. Plan to go punting or at least walk along its banks! There are a few memorials alongside it as well.

We did not do the punting, but we walked along the river, sat and rested, watched the ducks and other birds, and enjoyed the beauty. Definitely add to your list of things to do while in Christchurch.

It passes through many tourist attractions and fun to take ride in the river, The water is shallow barely 3-5 feet but crystal clear.

I just love running by this river. I find it quite emotional still in places i.e. the red zone. To think of all the homes that once overlooked the river and the poor people who had to move following the devastating earthquakes. This is a...More

Take the punt up this "stream" (it is not a river). It is relaxing and enjoyable if not a tad expensive for what it is.
