Avon River is very picturesque. We wandered along the bank of the river for a short distance (because it begun to drizzle) and I was able to take some beautiful photos. The river was running high because of the recent rain, but apparently you can hire a punt when the weather is better.

The river is more of a stream really, but it meanders through the city giving an air of tranquility. It is a very relaxing place to stroll during the day and in the evening

The Avon River in Christchurch is an autumnal masterpiece. The weeping willows dance across the surface of the river, gently tousled by the breeze. This taste of England runs through the city, ducking under bridges in the CBD and skirting around parkland. It's refreshing to have such a beautiful element of nature trickle through a city so badly effected by... More

Loved the Avon. Gorgeous walking/jogging paths, enjoyed the historical landmarks, bridges, and cultural displays along the river. Pristine!

I followed this sweet little shallow river (stream!) along from Hagley Park on my walk to the Botanic Gardens where it meanders among the plantings. There's a good path & lots of joggers, walkers, strollers of all ages, plenty of grass for kids on bikes, enjoying nature right at the edge of a big city.

At certain parts of it you can hire a boat and meander down the river. You can watch and feed the ducks too. It is very pretty with trees etc and gardens at some points too

The Avon river is Christchurch's little treasure trove of nature and peace in heart of the City. You can explore the water way by walking or biking along the sides or by booking onto a Christchurch Sea Kayaking trip where you kayak from the City to the Sea. This is a fantastic way to see the nature that's within the... More

The river as it runs through Christchurch is not very wide or fast flowing making it ideal for the British idea of shallow flat bottom boats propelled with poles relaxing, the boatman is a font of knowledge

Most enjoyable. Was so relaxing, was wishing the journey could have been longer. Great general knowledge shared by the Punter. Everyone will enjoy this trip.

Punting on the Avon - not an experience to be missed. A peaceful and pretty place to visit anywhere along the rivers pathway through the city. A place often used for meditation, walkers, runners and cyclists - it's a special part of Christchurch.
