The Re:START is the shopping precinct built after the earthquake. It is a marvel to see but also has some great shops with quirky items. There are also pieces of street art. Definitely should see this when in Christchurch.

Built out of shipping containers after the devastating Feb 2011 earthquake, it was supposed to be temporary, but remains a vibrant and visible reminder, 5 years later. It is popular because of its uniqueness both with tourist and the locals. In a somewhat haphazard setup, shops and stalls display a variety of goods, furnishings, foods and specialty items housed in... More

A real bit of Christcurch history that is taking on an air of permanence without losing its difference. Rising up from the earthquake it provides a full range of food and outlet style stores.

There is more on offer here than orginally meets the eye, as each path unfolds plenty of hidden gems are revealled, for me Cosmic is amazing as always with Simply NZ a short stroll away, one of the best Trade Aid offerings sits in beteen and the not to be missed Hapa rounds it up perfectly. The majority of the... More

Probably the most interactive part of the city we went to. Very unique and fun vibe to it, great spot for lunch or a snack. Whenever we didn't know what to do we just ended up going back towards Re:START to regroup and think of what to do next. Mom and I really thought this place was neat and we... More

The people and shop owners of Christchurch have done a great job of continuing on after the earthquake. There are lots of great eateries and shops mostly in shipping containers. It is a must visit area and give them your support!

A whole series of high-quality shops, eating places, public toilets and banks, all constructed from shipping containers. The atmosphere is lively and there is something interesting at every turn. Sculptures and artwork fill the areas between the shops and the shops themselves are very nice. You soon forget that this was a makeshift answer to the destruction of years ago... More

This is anamazing exampl of Kiwi Number 8 wire ingenuity. Loads of ships and cafes in shipping containers on the edge of the Red Zone. Please, if you are near Christchurch visit the city and especially the Re:Start project to show your support.

Located at the heart of Christchurch city, this is a place that you shouldn't miss.. Containers are used to build shops to replace those destroyed during the earthquake. Besides shops, we also have banks, cafes and toilets among other things here, all made with containers. There are also a lot of street performers around and is slowly turning into a... More
