Interesting gallery set in a really beautiful building. We liked the exhibition from NZ photographers and the sound wave exhibits. Shame there was no tea room.

We returned to this well curated museum after many years and it is still worth a visit. At this time there was an exhibition on recent photography by New Zealand artists born in the 1980s and 1990s, who have grown up in the digital realm. This exhibition was asking how a younger generation is responding to the new cultural conditions... More

A spectacular collection of NZ art with well curated exhibitions. The gallery shop is the best I've seen with a huge selection of unique and beautiful gifts.

The art gallery is a must see. The building is lovely - it survived the earthquakes so well! There were about half a dozen exhibitions on when we went and all were interesting. The sparkly elevator is fun too 😊. The shop is very good too.

I'm not a particular art fan but it was nice to see the gallery re-open. There were a variety of exhibits and I liked the "themed" approach, as in a room was called "Bad Hair Day" and it had various art works to support this theme....from ore traditional to contemporary. I liked the NZ representation throughout the gallery and the... More

A magnificent display of young and up and coming artists. The display of artistry was fabulous. You need to set aside a few hours to take in the displays. Take the kids along and enjoy the display.

The best museum by far was the Christchurch Art Gallery featuring contemporary art by local artists. The building itself is impressive and good amount of time can be spent admiring the building’s interior and exterior before even looking at the first piece. The constantly changing displays were all superb. Highlights were some of the interactive energy themed works by Australians... More

This is very modern however there is lots to see and this is not to be missed. Some of the rooms have very little in them so it does not take long and it is free.

A great place to visit. No charge. A beautiful building that was not damaged in the Earthquake. Exhibitions change, we totally enjoyed the ones we saw. Will go back next time in Christchurch.

This gallery was fantastic! For an avid contemporary art lover, this was well worth visiting. There was some very interesting sound based, digital and interactive works. There is a great bend of works in the Hair exhibition too! Awesome experience!!
