When the original city planners of Christchurch first laid out the city, they were foresighted enough to designate a large green space in the heart of the town. Today, the city has grown up around Hegley Park's six hundred and ten acres of tranquility. Green grass, shade trees, botanical gardens call the harried individuals and families to leave the busy... One of the main reasons Christchurch is an attractive city. We have the provincial government to thank for their far-sightedness in establishing this 164-hectare oasis "reserved forever as a public park, and shall be open for the recreation and enjoyment of the public.". The park is split by Riccarton road and within the park are several sporting venues including a... More

Stroll from quintessential English gardens, to a miniature snapshot of New Zealand Native flora. Spectacular old growth trees and of course you can always take a punt on the Avon, or just sit and relax.

Comparable to any park in the world. Maybe not in size but certainly in beauty. In the heart of Christchurch well worth a stroll through. Any time is a good time to view but the best time is autumn where the leave are ablaze with autumn colours.

Wonderful park in the middle of the city. At the Avon river you can hire a canoe and paddle down the river yourself going past homes and buildings. Very nice.

Hagley Park is a very nicely designed Park at the center of Christchurch. Very walkable and a good place to jog or bicycle.

We walked to the Bruce Springsteen concert through the park, it was lovely and we felt safe walking back afterwards as there were many people around. The cricket pavilion looks amazing too

Only saw a small bit of this obviously enormous park, but enjoyed a Christmas Day lunchtime bbq at one of the bbq stations near the tennis courts and lake (with lots of ducks). Great for visitors that there are bbq stations like this - I guess locals mostly opt to use the barbie at home. Anyway we would do it... More

Cantabrians are very lucky to have such a wonderful park in the heart of their city. It is over 1 mile square and has well surfaced paths that are well lit by lamps at night. There are a number of playing fields used by schools on the park as well as an 18 hole golf course. The river Avon winds... More
