From the gatehouse on the main road, along the riverside walkway to the main building hosing a restaurant, is a pleasure. If the punts are back, take one of those then wander the gardens that were nearly turned into a factory and housing estate. A must in Ch-ch if you have the time to wander.

It's nice to have it back - Mona Vale Gardens and Homestead are now open again following the Christchurch earthquakes. The gardens are looking beautiful, an excellent place for a walk or perhaps a picnic by the river. Hope the amphitheatre area is going to be used again for outdoor theatre this summer. Carparking area is now quite small -... More

Booked for a group six friends for 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The booking system was extremely efficient and confirmed and sent a reminder of the booking. However at no time did they say the kitchen was closing at 3pm and were hurried out not long after 3,15pm. I chose the $19.00 high tea and received two scones with jam... More

Elegant Mona Vale homestead recently reopened following extensive post earthquake repairs. Since 1969, Mona Vale has been owned by local councils as a four-hectara public park. Have a picnic beside the river or sip coffee at the café. Walk amongst gardens punctuated with statues from Greek mythology. Smell the roses. Enjoy the fernery. It's all here for a pleasant half... There are lovely gardens and expansive lawns to wander around. Go if the flowers are blooming. There is also a big fancy building to see.

What a stunning place to take photos. There were many locals either jogging or walking their dogs. It's a clean well set out garden.

We met at Mona Vale last week for lunch, as it had recently opened post earthquake. My friend phoned to see if it was necessary to book. She was told there was no problem sitting outside. On arrival we perused the menu, as one friend had an appointment an hour later. When we went into to the restaurant to order,... More

Always liked this place. A relaxing location for a bite to eat and a drink. Just opened again after some time closed.

Prefer a short walk? romantic and peaceful place? then Mona Vale will be a great choice. The place is like deja vu for me, I was dreaming this place when I was 12 years old. A house facing the small river with all the ducks and birds swimming and a huge garden with a walkway.
