Visit the chickens

Great fun to be had at the park and pool. Make sure you go and visit the animals. Chickens and pigs tucked away, free to pet, could be better sign posted

Spencer Park is a well kept secret in Christchurch. It is twenty minutes out of town but is a conservationist's delight. A large ranging area with walks through seaside native vegetation to a wild beach with crashing waves. Even watching the waves is an experience and if you like you can body-surf the waves. Afterwards a free BBQ area is... More

Once the road finishes at Waimairi Beach, one walks until Spencer Park is reached. There, one will find an ice-cream shop (cafe closed) before hiking on to the Waimak mouth. If you prefer to "cheat" go by car or bus and indulge in the many activities provided there including barbecues, play equipment, mini golf and a mini zoo.

Took the grandchildren here for an outing and must say even though they are getting older and perhaps too cool to go to a park they all enjoyed it and had a great time. We used the flying fox and then walked down to the beach. There is so much to do here and you could spend an entire day... More

This is one of the largest parks in Christchurch and offers lots of fun for families with a car. Free barbecues and a large playground plus plenty of grass to run around on. Some large picnic sites can be booked by groups.

Although the beaches of NZ of absolutely stunning, this one proved to be quite dodgy. We went here during the school holidays and it was quite busy. We parked in a public parking spot for only about half an hr to walk the dogs. There was a lot of trash on the beach. Beer bottles, random discarded shoes, lots of... More

The wide ocean of Spencer Park Beach was amazing. It was exactly what we all needed - an afternoon playing on the beach. Definitely could have spent a lot longer there. Gorgeous.

A nice getaway on weekends or holidays. The park is quite big with playgrounds and other facilities. And you can also go for a walk towards the beach which only takes you couple of minutes!

So many activity choices, all beautifully maintained, so close to Christchurch. The camping, BBQ areas and all the beach activities are fantastic. A cheap and fun full day option.
