Will give you any idea of what was there prior the Earthquake... and the reality and degree of damage hits you. It's under reconstruction and all closed off but you can peek through. Not photo worthy stuff if it's what you are after.

Sad to see the state its in, but happy its going to be restored rather than pulled down and rebuilt. There is some interesting things around the cathedral, but as of March 2018 it is still all boarded up awaiting the restoration.

The infighting and poor vision of Christchurch's 'elite' is no where more apparent than the Square and environs. Since the earthquakes the Square and it's poor mans cathedral have been allowed to fall into ruins. Avoid .

It's a sad sight with the severe earthquake damage and close visit/entrance not possible; however the good news is that restoration is now 'on the drawing board', so 'watch this space'. Still worth a trip past to see the effects of earthquake damage and that...More

It is sad to see all the main buildings in the city are broken and falling apart after the earthquake The church is not accessible because they are trying to fix the broken building It is very sad

We were staying out by the airport, but wanted to see Christchurch Square...it was an experience to see the devastation of the Cathedral that even now has an aura bout it. Unsure if it should be repaired or demolished...what a dreadful choice to have to...More

The church is still awaiting demolition and the stalls and markets have not returned following the earthquake in 2011. Some street performers were still in action but the Square is not worth making a special effort to visit

You would have to park and walk as there is no through-traffic. Pedestrian area really.
