We happened to be in Chistchurch for the anniversary of The 'Quake, and found this particular memorial the most moving and heartfelt, Very unusual, and highly recommended.

I cannot make up my mind about this one. It is certainly more poignant than the low-key official memorial, but the wasteland it's the centre of it is nothing less than a total distraction. And it's at a busy street intersection. Really! If you visit...More

A simple and moving tribute to the quake of 2011, in which a relative of a friend was killed. We stood in silent memory of all those who lost their lives and hope that this memorial will find a permanent home to prevent damage and...More

This memorial to the 185 people who lost their lives in the earthquake is very simple but moving. I would recommend a visit to reflect on the terrible tragedy that struck this beautiful city.

Nothing quite prepares you for the sight and sentiments of this memorial. A peaceful place with some sadness about it of course but also serving to remind us of the fragility of life.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but it was very moving to see the white chairs. I was most surprised at how much work still needs to be done in Christchurch post-earthquake. People should definitely travel here to visit and help the local economy...More

Nothing needs to be said. Just take in the vision and this memorial will stay with you for a long time. Especially the baby car seat.

So this is a sad but interesting sight in Christchurch. There is a cardboard church right beside this, and it's kept up by the church members to remember those who died on this spot during the earthquake.
