Did this Anzac Day! With some friends. I found the hike up really physical but when we got to the top the view was so worth it. I would recommend taking plenty of water as there are no taps and a little good. Also I...More

I really enjoyed this hike, we started around 1 PM from the top of the gondola and got back around 6 PM. It's a strenuous but really fun hike-- not all of our small group decided to go all the way to the summit, with...More

If you search Ben Lomond Track under Department of Conservation this track is graded as easy walk. I didn't find it easy. I wish they had their information accurately published so that I would be better prepared. Other sources graded this track as high fitness....More

Started at Bob´s Peak, the top of the gondola, and walked up to Ben Lomond Saddle. Didn´t go up to the summit because it was covered in clouds. A bit of exercise to climb to the saddle but we got rewards during the walk, fantastic...More

I made it a bit past the saddle and my brother went to the summit. Both of us thought it was a good track and well worth the effort. We were lucky to have a beautiful day, but be prepared for fast temperature changes. The...More

I have done the Ben Lomond track twice, both times with a group of 12+ studenst with me. If the weather is bad it is not worth it, but a bit of rain is okay, if it looks like it could clear, and clouds are...More

Started from the lake Esplanade / thompson road. First Part is forest and a bit steep and there aren't many signs for the track. A few downhill tracks crossing the way. Upper part is easier. A few good scenic viewing points on the way to...More

Hi guys, Have planned to do this trek in late June. Anyone has any idea how snowy/ slippery it would be then? We're reasonably fit but we're just unsure about the conditions then. would it still be advisable to go around that time? If not, any other recommendations for a hike? Thanks in advance! =o)

In winter conditions alpine skills and experience are needed to attempt the summit of Ben Lomond. You should be prepared for snow and ice above the bushline - an ice axe and crampons may be required. We recommend you visit... More

Yes, you can easily access the trailhead from downtown. Just walk toward the chairlift and you will see the trail. If short on time you could take the chairlift and begin the trail a little further up. There are clear... More
Hi guys! My partner and I are planning to do this track in mid August, but we're wondering whether it would prove too difficult if not impossible to do it at this time of the year given the snow and ice. We only plan on going as far as the saddle, we're certainly not the fittest, but not unfit either (if that makes sense). Thanks in advance :D

I did this in August last year. We started to hit some thick chunks of ice close to the saddle. It had been awhile since it had snowed so there was a clear path where others had walked but there were times we punched through... More
